My Moomin is Three!
Another long absence – my apologies. The Moomin turned 3 a few weeks ago. It was epic. He has legs up to his ears and the attitude of a small, cheeky diva. As a belated birthday present we took him to the aquarium to celebrate his love of the life aquatic and he was that kid running around naming every species in sight… “Look mummy! A spider crab!” (YIKES):

He actually made another kid’s dad mutter “wtf?” in the underwater tunnel when he pointed out a lemon shark. Snarf.
He had a little party in our garden, which Husby has furiously been transforming from rubble-valley to green-pastures over the last few weeks. We had balloons and an extra special birthday sky:

And continuing on the sea-life theme, I made him a magnetic fishing game:

The little pond is also a little drawstring bag for storage. Moomin is now accomplished in waving the rod around like a nunchuck and braining anyone within a metre. We’re very proud.

And we ate a helluva lot of ‘seafood’ cake (created by my lovely friends Emma and Dan at The Rather Good Cake Co):

The kids spent the whole party up at the unfinished end of the garden, of course, where Husby is half way through building some garden seating and a deck out of free pallets. Here kids – a ton of toys, a treasure hunt, bubbles and party food. No? You’d rather climb on splintered wood and bricks and mud. Fair enough:

We were really lucky with a sunny day as it seems to have rained nearly every day since. Still, all that water has made the veggie patch go BOOM, so I’m up there most afternoons filling my skirt with fresh stuff for dinner…

So all in all, we’re good. Baby’s still cookin’, DIY and decoration is still ongoing (I’ve taken some pretty spectacularly horrible ‘before’ shots of the bedroom so we’re just waiting to finish and take some spankingly awesome ‘after’ pics…), the Moomin is still beautiful and hilarious and wild, Husby is still a big crickety freak, I’m still editing my book… Life goes on, even if I don’t blog so often.

Parties never go to plan but as long as everyone has fun and goes home full, so what? my boy just turned four and I was inspired by your cake as he is a massive Octonauts fan. Result? drunken yellow octopus, bizarre looking fish and shitty wonky stars. He loved it!
