Excuses. Lots of Excuses.
Woooooah ok, I realise it’s been a while. 6 weeks?! Sorry ’bout that if you missed me. And if you didn’t notice at all, why didn’t you miss me?!
I have a list of fairly to extremely good excuses lined up for you, right now. Here we go.
1) About 3 days after I finished the baby blanket in the last post, my sister-in-law went into labour 5 weeks early and gave birth to my utterly smooshable little nephew. Life became a series of hospital visits while he worked up the strength to regulate his own heat and kicked the jaundice. Happy – ecstatic – to say that my sis-in-law clearly produces gold-top milk and the little dude has been putting on 1lb A WEEK since then.
2) I’ve sadly noticed that since I started working in front of a computer screen every day, I blog less. I write less. I still fuck about far too much on the general interwebs, but I have become less computer-productive and more computer-procrastinat…ive. This sucks, and it’s not really a decent excuse and I apologise if you’ve been literally sitting broken hearted and dead-eyed at your computer waiting for me to update. I think that’s very unlikely but the idea makes me snarf a little bit.
3) I can’t stop using the word ‘snarf’. Not even just online, as a half-hearted sniggering reply to a semi-funny post or message. But In Real Life. Instead of actually *laughing*, I have started saying, “snarf!” At which point people slowly back away as if I just LOLed in their face.
4) Number 3 wasn’t an excuse, and I am excusing its non-excuseness here by reclassifying it as a tangent. Which means neither is number 4. Fuck. What have I done to my list?
5) Focus, people, focus. Due to the above lack of motivation to do anything much after work than sit and eat and celebrate the Moomin going to bed BEFORE 10pm (ooooh yes, number 6 will cover this excuse shortly), my sewing machine Jerome has been gathering dust in his little plastic jacket. Instead, I’ve been knitting, which – in my world – is a slow and badly lit series of fuck ups, resulting several weeks later in something that sort of resembles the pattern it originated from. So my crafty updates haven’t really been required, hence forgetting to blog. I did make this though, to match nephew’s blanket and to keep him snuggly at night – a little stripy sleeping bag:

6) The Moomin has hit terrible toddlerdom. He’s nearly 3 (HOW IS HE NEARLY 3?!) and I’m not going to bore you with what that entails. A LOT of bargaining, brick-wall logic, procrastination, negotiation and general yelling. He doesn’t nap any more. He can somehow NOT SLEEP until late into the evening, even though Husby and I are falling asleep on our feet. This too shall pass. This too shall pass. This too shall pass. He is still as cute and clever and charming as ever. He’s just a pain in the arse, as well.
7) Excuse number 7 is a visual excuse. Here:

Yep. Skip’s got a bun in the oven. This little squiggler is due in October and the last few months have been fairly unreal. Being pregnant kind of puts me into a bubble – a lovely, incredible, slightly moany and anxious bubble – and the online world becomes far, far less important than the real world, in which I can’t stay awake past 8am and I look like I’ve eaten too many pies.
The good news, besides having a baby, obviously, is that I am bursting with all the little newborny, autumny, snuggly things I want to sew and knit for this little womb fruit. I only started sewing when Moomin was about 6 months old, and learnt to knit the following year, and making baby stuff is my most favouritest ever thing to make. So far, baby #2 has one and a half knitted socks. Its a start.
So forgive me for my absence, and I hope/promise/intend to be around here more often from now on. You might even get some photos of me being really fat at some point. That’ll be funny, and freaky. I’m barely over 5 foot, so being full of baby (especially Moomin, who was 9lbs!) makes me look a lot like I’ve swallowed a space hopper. Look forward to that, eh?

OH MY GOSSSHHHH!! Congratulations!!
congratulations! Nice stripy baby bag by the way. You can make yourself one too now! Oh, and don’t worry about the 3ness. It really does pass. xx
Thank you. “It’s a phase” has been a mantra in our house for the last 3 years…
Congratulations on the baby. My second is due in the next couple of weeks and I have been happily making things for her arrival. I discovered my love for sewing just before Piran was born but I wasn’t very good at it. This time I have had a couple years practice so I’m excited at trying to make new things for the new baby.
I didn’t blog much at the beginning of this pregnancy. Far too tired and it was as if the secret that I had was blocking any other writing. Once I could come clean I wrote a lot more.
Oooh congratulations!
I’m glad you’re back. I’ve been going through withdrawal. What am I supposed to do in the middle of the night when feeding if there are no blogs to read?!?!?
I’m sorry! x
YEAHYYY!! you are back, good to see/hear from you. Had sent you a stalkeryyyy email so deepest apologies, will now go back to lurking (its what I’m good at) Quick question before I disappear, any chance of a tutorial on the cardigan/sleeping bag I have two babies (not mine) to prepare for and I’d love to give it a go… :0)
Heheh, always love a stalkery email. Again, I am lame and haven’t checked that email account for ages so will go and look now. The pattern is from here: http://lwalters1-ivil.tripod.com/bunting.html – it’s actually for preemies but I think you can size it up too.
Yay! So pleased for you. I was reading excuse number 6 and thinking it was about time you had another, only to scroll down and see you are, wonderful. x
I know – about time really…
Congratulations! I am expecting my second child in late September so we will be having some tandem experiences. Leo has just turned two, I never manage to produce anything apart from the odd email or bit of baking so I think your knitted sleeping bag is pretty awesome.
Yay, you came clean! Bloggy “Congratulations2 to add to the Forum ones
Yaaaay Skip’s back
Didn’t really miss you, cos, y’know, I can find you plenty of other places, but I do like me a bit of concentrated-Skipness to brighten my day, and I was just looking sadly at my blogroll the other day, thinking that faaaar too many of my favourite bloggers don’t blog enough. Be more bloggy!
*snarf*
Wow, you really weren’t shitting when you said you wanted an excuse to knit another baby blanket! Congrats!
Wonderful news! Congratulations.
Congrats on the baby baking! Can totally sympathise with the toddler thing, currently my 3yo is eating peanuts watching tv, nuts for breakfast? whatever! better than early morning screeching.
Hiya, I gave you a blogger award, it’s over at my blog if you want to pick it up and show it off. Just so you know, the only reason I’m giving it to you is to give you a reason to start blogging here again, cos you really don’t have enough to do as it is. Slacker. x
